19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his initial title for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament final.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging year, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in particular - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with long-time trainer Cervara.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the past month - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks his first title following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface after March of the previous year.

Success also means Medvedev has achieved twenty-one titles at twenty-one distinct events.

"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," said ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six championship matches, including in the German tournament in the past months.

His counter-punching strategy and frequent reactions on the playing surface had caused some to wonder if his capacity to perform at the highest level was finished.

Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to advance forward and play aggressively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, securing 4 of the concluding five games to take the lead.

The competitors exchanged service breaks in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his first professional victory, gained dominance to force a third set.

Moutet saved four early opportunities in a competitive final set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Suitably, he earned the win with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
